The 5 BEST Foods for Healthy Skin
What you eat matters.
It’s about more than just the products you use.
Here’s 5 foods that will help you get more vibrant, healthy skin.
Healthy Skin: An Inside Job
You’ve seen the ads, you’ve tried the products, and nothing seems to be working. Could it be that your diet is actually the thing that is stopping you from achieving the results you want?
While it is SUPER important to choose the right skin care products for you, (we of course recommend Freedom Creators Co’s line of toxin free products) it is equally important to be maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and diet.
But first, the foods to avoid….
A lot of foods may be blocking your liver and digestive system, which in turn could build up toxins in your body causing breakouts, inflammation and a deterioration of skin pigment.
While I could go into great depth about the type of food you should avoid (probably will in another blog), here is a general list of some foods to avoid:
- Processed Meats
- Dairy
- White Bread, White Pasta, White Potatoes and Sugary Baked Goods (High Glycemic Index)
- Alcohol
- Soy
These foods are directly linked to increased acne breakouts, inflammation and other skin problems.
Now for the good part.
Here is my list of the 5 BEST foods for healthy skin:
1. Kiwi
Kiwi is rich in Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that helps to stimulate collagen, a necessary building block for the skin. Kiwi is also full of necessary antioxidants that help reduce hyperpigmentation and reduces the appearance of dark circles as well! This healing fruit also protects your skin from ultraviolet damage from the sun because of the vitamin C it contains.
2. Salmon
This fish is probably best known for being rich in omega-3 fats. These healthy fats actually help to reduce inflammation, making the skin less puffy, blotchy and red. Omega 3 is also known to help prevent the aging effects of the sun, and even lowers your risk of developing skin cancer!
3. Chia Seeds
While a great majority of nuts and seeds are wonderful for the skin, I choose to include chia seeds because of its high level of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These fatty acids help the skin to lock in moisture, reducing dryness and redness from irritation. Because of its high levels of antioxidants, chia seeds also help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.
4. Carrots
Carrots could be your cure for acne! Carrots are packed full of vitamin a & c, which help to improve cell turnover- the process performed by our body to replace dead skin with new and healthy skin cells. This yummy veggie is also rich in polyacetylenes that have antibacterial properties that can reduce the pimples on our skin!
5. Kale
And last, but certainly not least, the amazing Kale! This leafy green has become increasingly popular in the last decade for the right reasons. This food is full of vitamin a,b,c,k AND antioxidants. It’s a winner for sure. Vitamin K helps to reduce scarring and swelling, while vitamin A helps to repair tissue damage. Overall, this superfood can help to reduce dark spots, repair sun damage and gives the skin an overall brighter tone!
Be sure to add in some of these amazing foods, along with some of our skin care products, to your daily routine and you are very likely to start seeing a noticeable difference!
